TRUCKS NOW CARRY 84% of the UK's freight,with 40% moving by motorway.'The Department for Transport's report Transport Statistics Great Britain 2003 reveals that the amount of goods moved has risen 18% over the past decade from 135bn tonne-kilometres in 1993 to 159bn t-km in 2003. Goods lifted rose 7% to 1.7 bn tonnes.
