• An industry code of practice covering the installation, maintenance and use of vehicle lifts in workshops from the Garage Equipment Association (GEA), has been produced in collaboration with the Health & Safety Executive, the Vehicle inspectorate, the RMI, the NTDA and other interested parties.
It replaces the guidance given in British Standard BSAU161, which has been withdrawn and replaced with BSEN1493, covering the manufacture of lifts only.
The GEA is working with the BSI to produce a new standard for the installation, maintenance and use of lifts. This should be available in two years.
