Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE use of a three-stage hydraulic torque converter -is an outstanding feature • in the new Allis-Chalmers 1-1.0.19 industrial tractor, which is claimed to be the largest of its type in the world. • Its introduction is announced by MacKay Industrial Equipment, Ltd., Faggs Road, Feltham, Middlesex, sole United Kingdom distributor. Deliveries of this tractor are due to begin within.•the next few weeks.

It is claimed that by the use of the torque converter maximum power and efficiency are available at all times-and under all conditions. By absorbing transmission shocks the system protects the mechanism and gives longer and more reliable life to primary and final transmission systems.

Any possible misalignment between engine and transmission is obviated by the use of two needle-roller-bearing universal joints. These, when split, allow the torque converter and master clutch to be removed as a unit, leaving the engine undisturbed. • The basic design of the new H.D.19 is similar to that of the well-known

14.13.5. Maintenance is simplified by the use of wick-feed lubrication. There is 1,000-hour lubrication for the track wheels, support rollers and front idlers,. all of which are fitted with positive.

seals and taper-roller bearings. There are no lubrication points on the underside of the tractor, oscillating bearings of the track frames being automaticall lubricated from the final-drive compart illeilt. Sieerini2 clutch throwout bearings are lubricated by connection with the hevel-eear compartment. The steering clutches are hydraulically operated.

Powered by ti General Motors 6-71 oil engine, the tractor has a maximum drawbar pull of 36,000 lb. and 163 b.h.p, is developed at 1.750 r.p.m. governed speed. There are Iwo forward speeds and reverse. Normal top-gear speed is 7 m.p.h.. and that in reverse 5.5 m.p.h.

The tractor weighs 40.000 lb. with standard 24-in. grouser shoes and has

• track length on the ground of if ft. IN ins. The total area of ground contact is 5,118 sq. ins., giving a ground pressure of 7.8 lb. per sq. in. Overall length is 15 ft. l0:1 ins.. overall width 9 ft. 1! ins, and overall height 7 ft. 31 ins., excluding stacks.

Special care has been taken in designing this machine to enable the operative to work at highest efficiency throughout the shift. A wide. comfortable, adjustable seat gives maximum visibility, and fatigue is reduced by the use of adjustable brake pedals and self-energizing brakes, and by the convenient arrangement for other controls. Standard Allis-Chalmers equipment is fitted. including electric startine and lighting. full-width crankcase guard and hinged radiator guard.
