I generally start the week at 6am along with the demolition gang who have already set off for their sites. We then get the skip wagons ready so drivers can jump in them at 6:30am. Time for a quick cup of tea before the phones start ringing for the day. Hopefully the picking line that we've had installed will be up and running—this is a conveyor that allows the men to pick out different sorts of waste to be dealt with separately. if everything is in order I can go on my rounds of the transfer station and the workshop. In the afternoon we have our weekly visit by the Environment Agency. Here at our Wardle headquarters we are a licensed Waste Transfer Station and Reclamation Centre so the EA makes regular inspections to ensure we don't contravene our licence requirements. We handle around 100 skip-loads of waste a day, of which about 80% is recycled.
