A NUMBER of additional items for checking are expected to be covered by amendments to the light van and car annual testing scheme regulations to be brought in this summer.
The changes are now being discussed by the Transport Minister, Mr MuIley, with road transport organizations . and other interested bodies. The new checks will cover the functioning of wind screen wipers and washers, direction indicators and stoplights and the state of the silencer and exhaust systems.
Longer term changes will require all authorized examiners to have a wider range of equipment than at present, including a roller brake tester. It is also the intention that by June 1 1979 all testers will have attended a suitable training course.
