• Newcastle upon Tyne transport committee is recommending that when the new Tyneside Passenger Transport Authority comes into being next month, it should make an early attempt to take over all the bus undertakings in its area. The PTA will take direct control of the Newcastle and South Shields bus undertakings. but the United, Northern, Gateshead and District. and Tynemouth and District companies will continue under the control of the State-owned National Bus Co.
