• The Road Haulage Assocation has welcomed the decision by Mr. George Thomas, Secretary of State for Wales, not to approve the proposal by the Pontypridd Urban District Council to limit the use of certain roads by godds vehicles weighing more than 6 tons laden and more than 7ft 6in. wide with or without a load.
In objections lodged to the proposal by the RHA and other organizations it was pointed out that the roads where the ban would operate were on the only possible route for raw materials required by one of the largest manufacturers of gelatine in the world at Treforest. The proposals would have affected an export trade of £2m per year.
The case is important also in that it concerns the first disputed Order to be made in Section 1 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1967.
