• West German engineering company Voith is developing an automatic transmission suitable for midi and mini buses to meet new demands from operators once the deregulation aspects of the 1985 Transport Act are implemented.
It has also established UK service exchange schemes for operators with full-size buses reaching their mid-life overhaul time.
Voith has around 6,000 of its D1WA automatic bus transmissions operating in British buses at present. It sold 900 last year, of which 200 were re-exported to Hong Kong.
