Sir Henry Spurrier is First Leyland President

QIIR HENRY SPURRIER, who is 65, Li has resigned as chairman of the Leyland Motor Corporation and has accepted the Board's invitation to become the first president of the Corporation. His place as chairman has been taken by Sir William Black, the former deputy chairman, who is also chairman of A.E.C. Ltd and the Park Royal, Thornycroft and Maudslay companies and managing director of A.C.V. Ltd. Sir William is 70.

The new president is the third generation of the Spurrier family to have been at the head of Leyland Motors and although he has retired as chairman he will retain his directorships with the various companies in the group.

Starting as an apprentice, he has spent his life with the Leyland company, apart from a period as a pilot in the First 'World War, and in 1942, shortly after his father's death, he became Leyland's general manager. Early in 1949 he was made managing director and in January, 1957, he became chairman of Leyland Motors Ltd.
