THE annual meeting of the Berlin General Omnibus Co. was recently held in Berlin, when some interesting details were given of the progress of motorbuses in the German capital. For city use, where low bridges are notsencountered, covered double-deck buses are now being used and all the vehicles are fitted with interior heating arrangements. It has been decided to replace all the aid highselatform buses by the new low-loading type before the end of .the financial year of 1927-28, orders for half the necessary new vehicles having already been placed. Seven new city services and one suburban route were opened during 1926, bringing the total up to twenty and seven respectively. On six of the City routes a continuous day and night service is being maintained.

During the twelve months the company's buses covered a total of approximately 13.562,500 vehiele-miles, as COMpared with 8,750,000 vehicle-miles in 1925, an increase of about 55 per cent. In addition, 500,000 vehicle-miles Were covered by coaches and buses engaged on excursion and •pleasure trips, The total number of passengers carried during the year advanced from 77,163,251 in 1925. to 112,848,710, an increase of between 46 and 47 Pnr cent, The receipts in 1926, -Which amounted to £1,009,626, showed a slight falling off per vehicle-mile as compared with • 1925. The directors point 'out that the satisfactory position of the compnny had only been maintained as the result of the efficient methods of operation and maintenance adopted. The operating expenses amounted to £873,563 during 1920, the gross profit, including revenue from other sources, amounting to £230,939. Of this sum £185,588 has been devoted to depreciation of the rolling stock, buildings and other property. The net profit for the year was £45,351, out of which sum a dividend of 6, per cent. on the preference shares aud of 10 per cent, on the ordinary shares is being paid.
