Jack will be inviting youngsters to have a go at three escaping thieves in the 22,400sqft security display at the final of the CM Lorry Driver of the Year Competition at Cranfield on September 3. The show will be the climax of Hands Off Our Freight week, which will be opened by S. 1. Whiteley, chief constable of Suffolk, at the county police headquarters at Martlesharn on August 29.
Three life-sized effigies of a running man are being made by Herbert Pace Ltd, of Coa!villa, the Atlas Express bodybuilding subsidiary, which for a change will be building bodies for early destruction rather than for long life. Children will be given bean bags with which to fell the escaping thieves. This will make a welcome change from beating up old ladies.
The show is being put on jointly by the Vehicle Security Committee and Bedfordshire police. A marquee in which manufacturers of security devices and the police will have stalls, will be supplemented by the refurbished Atlas Express show trailer, a popular feature at last year's final.
