ACLASS of motor-coach bodywork which deserve more favourable consideration in this country is that providing a few uneovered seats at the front and, behind them, a fully enclosed or all-weather saloon of the familiar kind. For, stage or express-carriage services such coachwork would be unsuitable, but for excursions and tours the additional enjoyment which it permits for those travellers who like the fresh air is rather more important than might be thought by operators who have not actually experienced travel in this sort of vehicle.
Whilst having no doubts about the comfort of full protection when the weather is bad, everyone who travels by road—and that means the world and his wife these days—will claim that there is a special joy in-the open vehicle. It is a matter in which the operator has, of course, to compromise, and for pleasure services a good, practical solution lies in the coupe-de-ville type of coach. Rigid detachable sides and a neatly folding hood afford the protection necessary for the front seats. The appearance can be distinctly smart.
