Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Home Office minister Michael Jack has ruled out setting up a national police task force to combat truck theft, despite the ever increasing number of vehicles being stolen each week.

In response to a letter from Commercial Motor highlighting the problems faced by hauliers when their vehicles or loads are stolen, Jack says: "We do not consider that a national police task force would be the answer to the problems associated with truck theft."

However, Jack says he appreciates the "devastating effects that the loss of a vehicle and its load can have on a commercial company" and promises to consider if "some Home Office publicity aimed specifically at truck theft might be appropriate".

It is estimated that an average of 100 trucks or their loads are stolen every. day. If one of them is yours, fax details to CMCrimeline on 081-652 8971 or phone CMs newsdesk on 081-652 3670 and we will publish the details in our regular column.
