Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FORD TRANSIT and car-derived van owners could all benefit from a lifetime repairs guarantee scheme if regional tests launched this week encourage more owners to use Ford dealers.

To discourage van and car owners from undertaking their own repairs or using the services of friends and moonlight mechanics, Ford is testing a lifetime guarantee scheme at 16 dealerships in North-East Scotland and another 31 in South Wales.

The scheme, which applies to all ages of Ford vans, will guarantee a repair for life, provided that genuine Ford or Motorcraft parts are used, that the normal price is paid for the repair, and the same dealer is used.

If genuine parts are no longer available to rectify a failed repair, the dealers are empowered to refund the full cost of the original repair to the owner. The guarantee will also cover a consequential failure of an associated part and will cover unsatisfactory performances as well as a broken part.

It includes fuel systems, most brake components, steering and seat belts, but excludes those items which would be expected to wear out in the course of normal use. Therefore, parts such as spark plugs, filters, wiper blades, exhaust systems, body repairs, and wheel adjustments are not covered by the scheme.

The guarantee does not apply to vehicles on less than six months' hire.

Provided the service succeeds in the trial areas, it will be extended to other dealers throughout Britain from early next year.
