Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the size of broken-down vehicle which a recovery vehicle may haul?

My company is thinking of acquiring its own recovery vehicle and we cannot find anything which will help us in choosing a vehicle of the appropriate size.

AThere is nothing in the Motor Vehciles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1973 which restricts the size of the towing vehicle in relation to the broken-down vehicle being recovered. In theory, you are able to use whatever vehicle you like to recover even the largest articulated vehicle providing, if this is done under trade plates, that the recovery vehicle complies with the description laid down in the Vehicles (Excise) Act 1971. However, you should be aware of Regulation 90(3) of the C and U regs which states that no vehicle or motor trailer shall be used for any purposes for which it is so unsuitable as to cause or be likely to cause danger to any person in or on the vehicle or trailer or on the road.
