It's not the gossip on the street...

THE TOWN OF Sanquhar in Dumfries and Galloway is apparently notable for its post office, claimed to be the oldest working example in the world.

But it hit the headlines for the wrong reasons last week when a truck spilt its 19-tonne load of glue on the A76 that bisects the scenic border town. Fearing that attaching a hint of humour to the situation would seem a bit tacky, a police spokesman said: "The glue container has burst and glue spilling is affecting the road surface. Road diversions are being put in place, however motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible."

This sticky situation left hauliers on lengthy re-routes as the police tried to scrape the adhesive off the road. But at least it gave residents something to gossip about in the post office.
