• Direct contact between vehicle manufacturers and users has been established by the Freight Transport Association. It has set up liaiso 'teams which will have regular meetings with individual manufacturers; nine teams are already in being, and the first round of meetings is under way. This move follows meetings between the FTA's vehicles committee and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Main topics of discussion initially will be maintenance facilities and dealer networks, spare parts, premature defects, design facilities and so on. It is expected that meetings between a particular committee and the manufacturer with which it is concerned will take place not less than twice a year. Special meetings are envisaged and specific complaints from members will be raised.
Members of the teams have been chosen with consideration taken of the types of vehicles operated. The make up of the teams is as follows:
