LINES totalling £55 were imposed last 1 week on Mrs. L. • Donnelly, Tynemouth, when she admitted nine chargeS of using a Vehicle without a licence and one charge of using an identity disc with intent to deceive. Newcastle upon Tyne magistrates fined her £5 on each of the first nine charges and 110 on the other summons. She' waS ordered to pay 15 SS. costs.

Mr. J. L. R. Croft, prosecuting, said Mrs. Donnelly bought a B-licence lorry from a man called Storrie last July. paying him 1125. The sale was supposed to be subject to the licence being transferred, but Mrs. Donnelly filled in a renewal application in Storrie's name, and a new licence and identity disc were sent to him.

Mrs. Donnelly took them for the vehicle, but the offences came to light when the lorry was seen at an opencastcoal site last October. The driver at first said he was employed by Storrie, • but later the facts came to light.

Mrs. D.onnelly had nothing to say in court.

DUNLOP OFFER FOR JOHN BULL QTOCKHOLDERS of . the John Bull

Rubber Co., Ltd., have now received a formal offer by the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., to buy the £555,558 ordinary stock on the basis of nine Dunlop £1 ordinary shares for every 20 5s. John Bull units.

The offer is conditional upon accept-. ance by 90 per cent, of the stockholders by March 12, or, at the option of Dunlop, by a lesser percentage, or at a later date not after March 31. John Bull's directors have said they intend to accept the offer in respect of their own holdings of £68,915.

WEYMOUTH CONTEST CHANGE

THE date of the Weymouth round of the Lorry Driver of the Year Cornpetition has been changed to May 17.

Mrs. Jean P. Hall, honorary secretary of the event, told The Commercial Motor on Tuesday that as a result of publicity given by this journal, an entry had been received from as far away as Liverpool. All the major awards for the competition had been promised. Funds of £18 had so far been raised.
