Ili Trucks with unusual specifications are attracting keen bidding at what Is otherwise a quiet time of the year at most auctions.

BCA's sale in Belle Vue, Manchester saw a 2001 lveco Daily 65C15 recovery vehicle with a spectacle lift on a 51 plate sell for £21,000.

A 1993 L-plated lveco Cargo 120E16 bodied as a mobile library was disposed of for 112,000. Interestingly, a 2001 'Jr-plated Cargo 120E18 chassis cab went for exactly the same money at the same sale.

Belle Vue also showed that there's a healthy demand for even older Volvo FH125. A 420 6x2 Blobetrotter dating back to 1995, on an N plate, sold for 17,000.

Over at Commercial Vehicle Auctions in Doncaster, a nine-car Hoyner car transporter married to a Volvo FL10 4x2 tractor unit 1993 on an S plate went for £11,500. "The trailer was older than the unit," says CVA managing director, Chris Wright.

He's noticed a marked drop in entries and attendees at sales in recent weeks. "The last one we held Included 340 vehicles and trailers, and we were easily up to 400 to 420 on some days earlier in the year," he comments, "As for the number of people bidding, I guess you can't be in Doncaster and Ibiza at the same time. There's still a fairly active export market, but unfortunately the Eastern Europeans—who know they can bid a bit less money and still get a good truck— shut up shop for six weeks in the summer."
