John Wells tells me that early indications are that our Driver of the Year competition entry is 30 per cent up on last year. But the ever cautious JW adds, "It's too early to predict".

This is the Silver Jubilee year of LDoY and big things are planned, so an increase in entries is understandable. The important thing is that the prizes have never been allowed to dominate the scene.

Road haulage is something of an introverted industry, and operators don't take kindly to boasting. The most recent example I heard of was from Edinburgh area last week.

One of the old school of operators received his Certificate of Competence through the post. His wife had it framed and gave it to him for his office wall. Being a wee bit shy he .didn't take it to the office but hung it on the bedroom wall instead.
