R.II.A. Load-line Indicators.

At a recent London rally of R.H.A. members, Mr. J. F. E. Pye, chairman of the Metropolitan Area committee, said that the Association has hopes of introducing shortly a load-line indicating, device for bulk-material lorries, which it has produced in co-operation with the British Standards Institution and which is likely to be passed in the near future by the Board of Trade.

Forthcoming Meetings.

A meeting of the West Midland seetion of the R.H.A. is being held to-day (Friday) at 7 p.m. at the White Horse Hotel, Congreve Street, Birmingham.

On Monday, May 8, the NorthWestern (East Lanes) section of the Association is meeting at 7.30 p.m. for a hot-pot supper at the Waldorf Cafe, Cooper Street, Manchester.

Regional Committee for Dorset Area.

A successful meeting of hauliers was recently held at Poole, with the object of setting up a local regional committee of the Road Haulage Association. Mr. A. J. Wright, of Southern RoadWays, Ltd., was chosen as chairman, also being appointed chairman of the committee. It was mentioned that there was already in existence in the Bournemouth and Poole district a local organization of hauliers, the chairman of which (Mr. F. S. Allen) was present, The chairman said that it was imperative that there should be unity.

Mr. Allen urged that members of the existing local organization should join the larger body. He said that the local association had already done something to prevent the cutting of rates, but that the R.H.A. could do more.

It was decided to form a local branch, and the following were elected to the area committee :—Messrs. Wright, Allen, Mackeen, 1Maidment, Newland, 'Newman, Heseroff, Gillard, Cuff and Burden.

Another meeting is to be held on May 3.

Chairman for North-Western Area,

Mr. L. B. 0. Heilbrun has been elected chairman of the Liverpool and North-Western Area of the Road Haulage Association. For the pest three years he has been a member of the area committee, and is a prominent figure in the Liverpool transport industry. Mr. T. F. Hargreaves has been elected deputy chairman for this area.

Rates Discussed at Hounslow Meeting.

The Road Haulage Association committee for the western section of the London area called a meeting cif btraliers at Hounslow on April 20, to discuss co-operation in regard to rates

and other matters. The attendance was small.

Mr. J. E. Pye, chairman of the Metropolitan Area committee, presided and Mr. Ernest Clifford made a good speech on the subject of rates. Other speakers were Messrs. F. F. Fowler, T. ft. Sanders and H. Janes.

The western London committee now comprises Messrs. A. F. Shaw (chairman), A, Kerswill, A. C. Eaves, C. Collings, T. Hallett, E. Clifford, J. Guyatt, T Sivers, C. W. Beckett, A. Clibbon, Lawrence and C. Anderson. It was tentatively agreed to hold the next meeting in this area on Thursday, May 11. In the meantime it is hoped that the main committee will be able to form a sub-committee to deal with rates standardization. Mr. Janes suggested that the sub-committee should make use of schedules of costs such as that Kepared by The Commercial Motor (in conjunction with its well-known Tables of Operating Costs) specially to meet sand and ballast conditions.
