Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SOCIETY of Motor Manufacturers and Traders registration figures for psvs shows that for most British and foreign manufacturers 1980 has been a better year than last.

But Leyland Vehicles, Bedford and Seddon Atkinson have had fewer registrations so far, although Leyland supplied 225 new vehicles this August against 129 for the same month last year.

The total number of registrations to the end of August 1980 is 2,334 as against 2,471 in 1979, and despite the slight decline Leyland accounts for over half the total.

The second largest psv supplier, Bedford, suffered a fall in total registrations from 914 in 1979 to 766 this year. Ford's overall figure in 1980 is a slight improvement on 1979, while Hestair Dennis have more than doubled their 1979 figures.

The most dramatic changes have been in the number of imported chassis with DAF leaping from 12 in the first part of 1979 to 42 in 1980, with MAN going from one to 16, and Volvo from 176 to 358.

Of a total of 432 psvs registered this August, 36 were imported and of a total of 4,532 so far registed this year, 417 have been imported, against 191 for the same period in 1979.
