• LEX SERVICE TURNBULUWHITTON Lex Service has announced the appointment of Peter Turnbull as chief operating officer. Turnbull, previously managing director at Lex, was responsible for expanding the retail car business. He will handle electronic components and computer distribution.

Tony Whitton, previously responsible for electronics, has been appointed director of corporate development.

• L GARDNER & SONS WILLIAMS Gareth Williams has been promoted to parts marketing manager at L Gardner & Sons, the Manchester-based diesel engine manufacturer.

He has over 20 years' experience of working with Gardener products.

• NATIONAL FREIGHT CONSORTIUM BURNS/ROBERTS Two executive directors have been appointed to the board of the National Freight Consortium. They will take up the positions in March 1989.

Robbie Burns has been named as divisional managing director at the distribution division. He joined NFC in 1971 and became group managing director at the distribution group in 1987.

Graham Roberts is to be divisional managing director of the transport division. He also joined in 1971 and became managing director of NFC's parcels operation in 1985.

• SMAC SMITH/WARWICK The south Essex multifranchise motor group, SMAC, has made two new appointments. Rodney Smith has been named as group financial director and Michael Warwick as secretary.

• BEES SECURITY DISTRIBUTION LANE/THOMPSON Bees Security Distribution has made two new appointments for its Irish distribution operation. Robert Lane has been appointed sales executive in Irish Sales, based at the Sawston depot_ He joins the company from Thompson Deliveries where he was sales executive.

Ken Thompson, previously general manager at Erne Freight, has been appointed manager at the Irish depot.

• MERTRUX TURNER Mercedes-Benz dealer Mertrux has appointed Graham Turner as general manager/ director at its three dealerships in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham. He has been in the truck industry for 15 years, the last five of which as managing

director with Volvo distributors at Heathrow and Maidstone.

• AC.KERS JARREIT GROUP NURSE West Midlands-based Ackers Jarrett Group has appointed Geoffrey Nurse as general manager of its specialist vehicle hire division. He will be involved with municipal and local authorities which are considering contract hire for tendering.

• LYNX EXPRESS DELIVERY NETWORK TROY Philip Troy has taken over as operations manager at Lynx's Leyland depot. He had been research and planning manager at the company's head office in Halesowen, and before that he was a sales executive at the King Cross branch.

• ARLINGTON MOTOR HOLDINGS BERRY Arlington Motor Holdings, a member of the Wincanton Group, has appointed Michael Berry as managing director retail operations. He joins Arlington from Spar Food Distributors, where he was assistant managing director.

• SOUTHFIELDS FOX/ROURKE/DOCKERILL Southfields has made three new appointments at its head office in Loughborough.

Rachel Fox, previously financial controller, has been promoted to financial director and company secretary. Les Rourke, who has worked as production director at Southfields, has been appointed technical director, responsible for semi-trailers, and Chris Dockerill has been appointed UK sales manager, responsible for supervising a team of nine sales staff. Dockerill was previously fleet sales manager.

• UNITED TRANSPORT INTERNATIONAL HARRISON United Transport International has appointed Philip Harrisson finance director, with effect from 1 November. He joined the company in 1983.

• INTERLEASING PAYNE Penny Payne has left Interleasing after 20 years.

She became the company's first woman sales consultant and rose to head the fleet management team in Birmingham.

• PROCTER, NOLAN & PARTNERS HILL In our issue of 13-19 October, we reported that Walter Hill had been appointed managing director of Nolan & Partners. ln fact the company is Procter, Nolan & Partners.
