VOLVO is adding a midicoach chassis to its range in Britain. The B9M 9/10m chassis will be introduced early next year and will offer a high level of parts and component commonality with the full-size B10M.

The B9M will be powered by a Volvo THD100EC engine producing 245bhp at 2,200rpm through a ZF S6.80 all-synchromesh manual gearbox.

The chassis has been designed to provide the basis for high-floor coach bodywork with room for 43 fixed or 39 reclining seats. The design allows for up to 6cum of luggage space in deep pannier, over engine locker space and in the rear boot.

Agreements for bodying the B9M have already been concluded with Plaxtons, Duple, Jonckheere, Van Hool and Berkhof. Chassis lengths of 9.1m and 9.7m will be available for bodies to a minimum height of 3.2m.

The B9M is designed to provide the basis for coaches with a gross vehicle weight of 14 tonnes.

LONDON Buses has further expanded its redesigned all-night bus route network introduced last spring. New areas covered include Barnet and Whetstone, Tufnell Park, Wansted, Kensington High Street and Belsize Park.

Business on the night bus network is reported to be booming to the extent that extra buses are regularly required on several of the routes.
