Alternatively, the greater torque achieved by removing the belt-driven fan makes hill climbing and open road driving easier.
A quicker warm-up to optimum running temperature ensures that less choke is needed. Improved efficiency is combined with a longer engine life and reduced servicing. A noticeable drop in cab noise levels reduces driver fatigue, and drivers of heavy lorries have commented that they have been able to listen to a radio for the first time. Vehicles with the engine driven fan at the end of a universally jointed shaft have an added bonus because vibration, costly servicing and down time is eliminated.
The commercial vehicle fan incorporates a 12v or 24 volt seated motor with ball-race bearings and four brush commutator closely matched to a steeply pitched twisted tapering aerofoil section ducted impeller. Unique automatic adjustable temperature control fits without drilling the radiator or modifying cooling system. A dashlight and manual over-riding control is also incorporated.
