WHEN HE opened the Motor Show last week, the Duke of Kent told visitors that the operator today expects much more of his lorry than ever before, — "As he has every right to," he added.
He issued a warning to the industry saying: "Our own domestic industry has a very wide and impressive range of vehicles on display, but it is also abundantly clear that they are facing probably stronger and fiercer competition from overseas than ever before.
"How well they succeed in coping with that challenge will depend upon the ability and determination of everyone working in the industry to unite in a combined effort.
"I believe it can be done — I sincerely hope that it will be."
