MR. RONALD R. JACKSON has been appointed chairman of Traffic Commissioners and Licensing Authority for the South Wales Traffic Area in place of Mr. Idris Owen, who retired on September 30, Mr. Jackson will take up the appointment on November 6.

Mr. Jackson, who is 44, was educated at Scarborough College. After training as a motor engineer, he served in the Army throughout the 1939-45 war and was twice mentioned in dispatches.

At the end of 1945, when he had attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, he was appointed Controller of Road Transport, Singapore. After his demobilization in 1946, he spent the next 15 years in Malaya and during that time held a number of senior posts in the Federation's Road Transport Department.

For the past four years he has successively held the positions of Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner for Road Transport and in the latter, capacity he was chairman of the Central Licensing Board.

Mr. Jackson is an Associate of the Institute of Transport and of the Industrial Transport Association and art AssOciate Member of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers.
