agistrates are one section of the community more used to judging others than being judged. However, in North Yorkshire recently, 130 members of the bench found the boot on the other foot when they had to take the theory section of the driving test as part of a training exercise. Sheila Jefferson, who chairs the executive of the York and District branch of the Magistrates Association, explains: "As dealing with driving offences forms a large part of their duties, this was considered an ideal way to keep up to date." A large part of their duties also deals with drunk and disorderly offences. I wonder if there will be regular training sessions down at the Dog and Duck?
