32-YEAR-OLD ROUTE STAYS •

DERMISSION has been granted to 1 the Midland General Omnibus Co:, Ltd., to continue on the route that they have used for 32 years for their service 'between Alfreton and Mansfield. When the company applied to the East Midland Licensing Authority in October • for a renewal of their licence (The Commercial Motor, October 16), 'Derbyshire Cciunty Council objected to its continued use on the ground that a portion was not suitable for buses. An 'alternative route would have cost Midland General an extra £900 a year.

ILLEGAL FOR 20 YEARS

fORmore than 20 years the 8.10 a.m. more operated from Woodlands to Bishop Auckland by the Northern General Omnibus Co., Ltd., ran an extra 440 yd. to the Market Place. A few weeks ago, Northern General learned that the extra quarter-mile constituted an illegal journey. They then applied to the Northern. Licensing Authority for permission to extend the service accordingly, but the application was refused.
