Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QHROPSHIRE Roads _Committee NJ has had a report of the county surveyor upon the condition ol the eight Karrier 4-5-ton petrol lorries forming part of the council's haulage plant; which, were purchased in 1934. These vehicles, which up to March last had carried 256,488 tons of road material, covering a total mileage of 1,355,501, or an average of approximately 170,000 miles per vehicle, have now reached -a stage, owing to age and mileage, when

maintenance is becoming expensive.

The total capital cost of the lorries in 1934 was £5,608, the whole of which had been written off in depreciation costs by March 31, 1940, and which total sum had then been provided in the committee's estimate year by year for replacement.

The committee being satisfied with the continued need for this haulage plant and that a considerable saving to the council is being effected thereby, has given careful attention to the question of replacements. In doing so, it has considered the various types in relation to the work and average journey mileage, and from the experience already gained in the use of these and other types the committee is of opinion that replacement by a similar type is the most advantageous. It therefore recommends that eight new 4-5-ton lorries be purchased at an, estimated cost of £5,600.
