Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

-Tractor-lorry..2-ton Chassis., 20-seater Bus. 54-seater Bus. 1,000-gallon Tank Wagon..

STAND No. 94.

MHIS year the exhibit of the famous A.E.C. concern is of greater interest than usual, owing to the fact that the tractor portion of the new tractorlorry is available for inspection. This vehicle is designed to carry a useful load of 8 tons at 12 m.p.h., or alternatively 10 tons at 8 m.p.h., and possesses a big margin of safety. The engine develops 65 b.h.p. at 1,000 r.p.m., and this is adequate to enable the vehicle to climb a gradient of 1 in 5 with an 8-ton load. Side-by-side valves are fitted, and the governor is totally enclosed. A paint . to notice is the forward position of the centrifugal water-circulating pump, this being arranged so as to reduce the amount of piping-required to a minimum Electric lighting and starting and battery ignition are on' the Delco system; The engine, clutch and gearbox are mounted on a sub-frame, four forward

speeds being provided. An enclosed propeller shaft transmits the drive to an overhead worm in the back axle, the gear reduction being 2to 1. The turntable, which carries the trailer portiOn, is. of very large diameter, in order to ensure stability, and is sprung by four double volute springs. The braking system has been carefully designed, and embodies mechanical hand and foot brakes operating. on the rear wheels of the tractor, and a Westinghouse pneumatic system operating on the hand-brake drums. Pneumat.cally applied brakes are also fitted to the rear wheels of the trailer. Some idea of the capacity of tho vehicle can be obtained from the fact that the space available for the body is 21 ft. by 7 ft..

Two 28 h.p. 2-ton chassis are also shown, one of which is -fitted with a saloon bus seating 29 passengers. A feature of this body is that it can be converted to a char-11-1)61)es when required. Another exhibit of interest is the 54-seater 35 h.p. NS-type bus', many of which have, of course, been• used im

London roads. This exhibit, will give many people their first opportunity of partially examining the chassis, in which an extremely low loading., line has been obtained. .

It will be recalled that a double-reduction gear is Provided, the final drive being by pinions meshing with internally cut gears on the rear wheels. The springing of the rear axle is well worth examination, also the seating arrangements.

Lastly, there is the Model 5 chassis, fitted with' an oil tank of 1,000 .gallons

capacity. This is equipped with an

A.g.c. engine giving 45 blip. at 1,000 r.p.m., and governed to a maximum speed of 1,350 r.p.m. (approximately 20 m.p.h.).
