I'VE BEEN VERY baffled by our government lately. It keeps going on about inflation at 2.5%. I wish, I operate a small-to-medium enterprise running nine vehicles on waste, highway services, and sand and gravel. Well, I've had my calculator out, and these are my results: Aggregate tax up in April by 21.8%; landfill tax up in April by 33.3%; landfill charges up in April by 10%; diesel up (in the past 10 months) 21%: red diesel up (in the past 10 months) 48%; wages due in April, say 5%, and that is an average of 23% (without other running costs included). You don't have to be a nuclear scientist to work out we should be doing something else. I really should have listened to my mum and learnt more at school.
