,S Phoenix Venture Holdings, the company behind the newlylaunched MG and Rover car-derived van range, has acquired the UK and Irish distribution rights to the Tata brand, which includes the Loadbeta pickup and Safari Access sports utility-based van. The agreement follows a deal to import a car based on the Indian-built indica, which will form the entrylevel model in the MG-Rover car range.
However, having experienced parts supply problems of its own with MG-Rover. Phoenix has now inherited a situation where the parts supply situation for Tata vehicles has effectively collapsed, leaving vehicles off the road for weeks. This follows the difficulties experienced by previous Tata importer, Motor Vehicle Industries, which was subject to an administration order last month.
Customers and dealers have had problems obtaining spares since last December, but steps have been taken for a leading dealer to act as a link between the UK network and the Indian manufacturer until the Phoenix operation gets up and running. Phoenix is currently re-evaluating the Tata range and will be relaunching it around July.
