• The Institute of Road Transport Engineers was relaunched at last week's CV Show.
The move followed its controversial merger with the Institute of Plant Engineers to form the Society of Operations Engineers in 2000—a move opposed at the time by a significant and vocal minority. Tracey Fisher, chief executive of the SOE since February last year, admits: The two professional sectors were not being allowed to operate although the merger document promised they would. A substantial proportion of members were unhappy and disillusioned with what had taken place."
