Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

As from the beginning of last week, an express motorbus service has been running in Birmingham from boundary to boundary. The service is in the nature of an experiment in order to ascertain if there is really a demand for. vehicles travelling at higher rates than the ordinary buses and passing through the city from one suburb to another. The idea is to eliminate short-distance fares and the number of stops for the journey has been reduced. The Journey from boundary to boundary is being covered in about 48 minutes, which is much quicker than the time usually taken by the tramcars to cover the same distance.

Doncaster's Application to Rotherham.

The Doncaster Corporation has reeently intimated to the Rotherham Watch Committee that it is desirous of extending its existing bus service between Doncaster and Effiington to Rotherham via Braithwell, Maltby, and Wickersley. It made application for hackney-carriage licences to be grated for the running of the vehicles on such parts of the road as lie within the county borough of Rotherham. Consideration of the matter was deferred.

Vulcan Works Busy.

Amongst the municipal orders which the Vulcan Motor and Engineering Co. (1906), Ltd., has in hand is a repeat from the Brighton Corporation for four 2-ton chassis. Tipping wagons are being purchased by the Rochdale. Corporation, the Dalton-in-Furness Urban District Council and the gas department of the Douglas Corporation. Sheffield Corporation has just placed a repeat order with the company for a road-sweeping and collecting machine. The company also has in hand a number, of orders for passenger and goods vehicles of different models for users in all parts of the country.

Long-distance Services from Glasgow.

In addition to the usual Glasgow to Aberdeen service, via Dundee, which is being run by Clan Motorways, Ltd., 192, Buchanan Street, Glasgow, 0.1,. the company is now running' two coaches each way daily between Glasgow and Aberdeen, via Forfar and Brechin, as well as a daily service each way between Glasgow and Newcastle: The fares on the Glasgow to Aberdeen service are 12s single and 24s. return and between Glasgow and Newcastle 13s. single and 23s. return.

Tyre-wear Facts.

An informative little booklet entitled "Facts About Tyre Wear " has just been produced by the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., and it explains the cause of premature wear in tyres, giving also useful hints for overcoming the trouble. Extracts from an authoritative article on the subject are quoted, and some interesting figures of the results of a series of tests are included.

Glasgow's Passenger-vehicle Plans.

The tramways department of the Glasgow Corporation is setting out to claim a larger share of the passenger transport of the city by formulating a scheme to acquire from 50 to 100 petrol buses. Plans are also being made for the building of a garage for 100 buses.
