in the tooth THIS WEEK'S best used truck is a 08-plate 6x2 Mercedes-Benz Axor 2543.
It's a Euro-5 tractor unit powered by the 12-litre 0M457 six-cylinder engine producing 430hp and 2,100Nm torque. It's specified with the Powershift 12-speed automated gearshift and it has a sleeper cab.
Since its registration, the truck has done more than 644,000km, and the vendor is Doncaster-based European Vehicle Sales.
For a decade, Axor has won Mercedes-Benz friends in areas it had previously not dared to tread; supermarkets, own-accounts, hauliers and rental companies. It is simple, robust and one of the more idiot-proof trucks an operator can buy.
There is a caveat or two; this truck is already five years old so you have to consider how long its next life will be and you'll need some network support, so make sure a Mercedes dealer is close by.
That said, it's gained a reputation for being robust, so if you need a truck now, this is more than an ideal solution.
