• At a Section 174 inquiry in Leeds on Wednesday, Peter Slater Ltd, Leeds, was granted a continuation of two A-licences in respect of five vehicles for six months only, by the Yorkshire deputy LA, Mr. M. Gosnay.

Mr. P. Kenny, for the applicant, referred to the 14 GV9s which had been issued in the two years previous to March 1969 and the seven immediate prohibitions received in March of this year at a fleet inspection. Figures were presented to Mr. Gosnay showing that a large amount of money had been spent on maintenance during the last two years.

Mr. Kenny said prior to March of this year vehicles had been serviced every 5,000 miles but would now be given the monthly R HAtype service because the company was very concerned with the whole topic of maintenance.

Mr. D. H. Norris, general manager of Peter Slater Ltd., said that four-wheeled vehicles would be replaced annually and that a completely new maintenance staff was now in charge at the depot.

The LA said that the company's maintenance facilities now appeared admirable but there had been a large number of GV9s issued in the last two years. It would not be appropriate, however, to withdraw any vehicles at present. A report on maintenance would be required at the end of the six-month period before the licences could be extended,
