Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Carriers Agency Ltd., Glasgow, which recently acquired a portion of David Maxwell Ltd., Glasgow, a haulage business, had the transfer of six A-licensed vehicles from the 23-vehicle fleet operated by Maxwell approved by the Scottish LA, Mr. A. B. Birnie. in Glasgow on Monday. The LA also approved operation of 60 per cent of the vehicles within 25 miles and 20 per cent over 25 miles from base, but rejected an application whereby the balance would have been available for furniture removal.

It was pointed out that the five objectors, who had withdrawn, had done so on the understanding that Carriers Agency was not interested in furniture removal.

Mr. Birnie also raised the question of the condition -over 25 miles from base". It was indicated on behalf of Carriers Agency that some of the work was stand-by service to shipbuilders who often required urgent collection and delivery throughout the UK. The LA accepted this.

For David Maxwell Ltd. it was confirmed that the firm was facing the loss of its transport manager and was anxious to reduce its commitments. Customers had indicated their readiness to support Carriers Agency and some were already using both firms.
