Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The duration of the 10-vehicle licence held by Abbey Transport (West Bromwich) has been cut to expire at the end of September instead of at the end of the year.

DOT vehicle examiner Michael Brown said that following a previous public inquiry 12 months ago he had inspected all 10 vehicles, issuing four advisory defect notices. The company's wall planner recorded the dates on which vehicles had been inspected rather than the dates when

they were due for inspection.

Brown said he was satisfied with the driver defect reporting system and the company had been co-operative. There was no inspection pit or ramp, but as the vehicles operated were highsided vehicles this did not appear to be causing a problem.

Director Paul Green said that the company now had a spare vehicle for maintenance purposes and was in the process of updating the fleet. It was prepared to put all its vehicles through fresh vehicle tests.

Cutting the duration of Abbey Transport's licence, and directing that the renewal be considered at a further public inquiry, Mervyn Pugh said he would like to see fresh test certificates by the middle of August.
