Mr. Giles Newton, chairman of the Cape Asbestos Co., Ltd., retired on medical advice on July 20. He is 71_and had been managing director since 1933 and chairman since 1957; he has been asked to accept the office of honorary president. Mr. R. H. Dent becomes chairman and managing director, and Mr. S. D. H. Pollen has been elected deputy chairman. Mr. Dent, who is 49, joined Cape Asbestos as company secretary in 1946, and in July, 1961, became sole managing director. Mr. Pollen is managing director of Central, Mining Investinent Corporation. Ltd., and has been a director of Cape
Asbestos since 1957.

Mr. Tom Norton, chairman and joint managing director of The Automobile Palace, Ltd., Llandrindod Wells, parent company., of The Automobile Palace Group, has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for the county of Radnorshire.
Mr. R. H. Hemmings, joint managing director of York Shipley, Ltd. (a member of the Borg-Warner International Group) has been appointed a director of York India, Ltd., a new company formed to manufacture York industrial and commercial refrigeration equipment in a new Indian factory being built on the outskirts of New Delhi.
The licensing committee of the Road Haulage Association has appointed Mr. E. W. Voller (Cattermoles (Transport), Ltd.) as chairman for the coming year and Mr. W. Bingley (Sheffield) as vicechairman. The public relations committee has re-elected Mr. W. J. Duckham (Falmouth, Cornwall) as chairman for* the third year in succession and Mr. E. W. West (Horsforth, Leeds) and Mr. .1. P. Wells (E. Wells and Sons (London). Ltd.) as vice-chairmen.

Prof. S. .1. Davies was elected president of the Britjsh Internal Combustion Engine Research Association in succession to Viscount Falmouth at the recent annual general meeting. He has been vice-president since 1960. Reelected as vice-presidents were Brig. J. R. G. Finch, Rear-Admiral R. S. Hawkins and Mr. H. N. Pemberton. The new chairman of council is Mr. S. J. Wood and the new vice-chairman is Dr. J. A. Pope.
The position of director of the City and Guilds of London Institute which Fell vacant when Maj.-Gen. C. Lloyd was appointed to the new post of directorgeneral has now been filled by the appointment of Mr. B. D. Hankin; he will, become director on October 1. Mr. Hankin is at present a principal scientific officer with the Ministry of Transport and was at one time in the operational research department' of London Transport.
Mr. M. B. Leggett has been appointed sales manager of the oil seals division of Super Oil Seals and Gaskets, Ltd. He was previously general manager of Tyresoles, in India.

Mr. L. J. Windridge has been appointed deputy secretary of Castro!, Ltd This is a newly created post. He is also secretary of Castrol's principal U.K. subsidiary. Castrol Industrial, Ltd., and of Castro! Overseas, Ltd., and is a director of .a number of Castro! associate companies.
Mr. J. H. Richardson, at present general manager of East Midland Motor Services, Ltd., has been appointed general manager of Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., -in succession to Mr. W. Leese, who, as previously announced, has been appointed general manager of North Western Road Car Co., Ltd. Mr. Richardson will take up his new appointment as from a date to be agreed. Mr. J. H. Gilbert, general manager of A. Timpson and Sons, Ltd.. has been appointed general manager of East Midland Motor Services in succession to Mr. Richardson. The Worshipful Company of Carmetc! Viva Award for Transport Improvement consisting of a shield to be retained foi one year, a gold medal and a citation was presented to Dr. A. Fogg, directoi of the Motor Industry Research Association, at a luncheon in the Goldsmiths Hall in London this week.
