Transport Commission against the grant by the Scottish Licensing Authority of a B licence to Messrs. George Wilson and Son, builders' merchants, Dalbeattie, to carry goods, excluding livestock and furniture, within 70 miles of Lockerhie, was refused by the Transport Tribunal in Edinburgh on Monday.

The grant concerned a vehicle which the firm had purchased from another company. Mr. J. M. Cowan, for the B.T.C., submitted that evidence should have been led as to the proportion of the earnings of the vehicle in the hands of former owners.

The chairman said that he would have been astonished if, in view of the fact that the respondents had agreed to pay £350 for the goodwill attached to the vehicle, the firm had not fully inquired into the work it had done. The Tribunal accepted the view that persons who had submitted letters were the principal cus

tomers, of whom the respondents knew a great deal.

Another B.T.C. appeal failed., It was against the grant of an A licence to Mr. David Munro, Markineh, Fife. The respondent, however, agreed to restrict his normal work to Scotland and the North of England, although the chairman told him that he could make occasional runs with his 3-tonner to other places.

Mr. Munro had taken a variety of goods to all parts of the country, chiefly for three large customers. Mr. J. S. Grosset, for the respondent, asked the chairman what he regarded as a reasonable number of journeys outside Scotland and the North of England.

The chairman: "We shall not commit ourselves."

Mr. Grosset: " My client requires to go at least twice a month."

"That might pass as normal," was the reply.
