Eagle 2651 engine has led Park RELIABILITY of the Rolls-Royce Cakes Ltd, Oldham-based baker, to place an order for 20 Rollspowered Leyland Roadtrains.

Twelve of the vehicles are to be replacements and the fleet is to be extended by a further eight.

Transport and distribution manager Clive Wood said: "During our own assesments the Rolls-Royce engine has performed more than satisfactory under the worst weather conditions. With fresh cakes there is no scope for breakdowns — we manufacture today and deliver to store tomorrow whatever the weather condition."

Fuel consuption has averaged 8.4mpg during a 12-month period. Each new vehicle is expected to average 90,000 miles.
