• The Italian authorities have agreed to increase the 1970 quota of road haulage journeys permitted under the Anglo-Italian road haulage agreement. The original quota, which came into force on November 1 1969, provided for 2,400 journeys a ye c by each country's hauliers, plus a temporary arrangement permitting 25 journeys a month by each country on road /rail services. Following discussions, the Italians have agreed to an increase in the general quota to 3,000 journeys a year, together with 1,200 journeys a year on road/rail services. These quotas will apply during the calendar year 1970.
Announcing these changes on Tuesday, Mr. Fred Mulley said the British Government remained convinced that quota systems were a hindrance to international traffic, and would continue to press for their abolition.
