• Scotland's first mailbus service, which started six months ago in East Lothian. proved popular during the summer. Linking Dunbar and the villages and hamlets on its route to Innerwick and back, the five-day-aweek service is being run experimentally for 18 months. Says a Post Office spokesman: "The mailbus proved very popular for residents and visitors to the area during the summer, but as we expected the number of people using it in the winter has dropped off a little. The service is turning out to be very useful to the population."
The mailbus is a specially converted van with a front compartment for mail. The rear can take seven passengers.
