Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MARITIME TRANSPORT has won a major contract to handle containers for Hyundai out of Southampton Container Terminal (SCT) and Thamesport.

The deal, which was finalised last week, will involve considerable investment from the Felixstowe company. including extra drivers. A team has been put together to work out how many staff and vehicles are required.

It is believed that Maritime was successful because it offered a price that was 8% lower than the other tenders, including the tender from current contractor HCD. a consor tium comprising Hanbury Davies, De benTransport and Carter Haulage. However, Maritime says it is unaware of the reasons.

"We have no idea," says a spokesman. "We participated in a competitive tender. The only people [who would know] would be Hyundai. He describes the win as "significant" and "really positive", adding: "We have a very strong operation at Southampton and equally strong at Thamesport. We've put in the investment into these locations and position ourselves by the way we've invested." christopher.tindall@rbi.co.uk
