APPLICATIONS are invited for two Rees Jeffreys studentships, tenable at the London School of Economics, to enable suitable candidates to devote at least one whole year to full-time research into the economics of transport.

The studentships are open to any person who has been engaged in the administration of transport, including road transport, or in the production of transport equipment or facilities. Their value will be £750 and £500 respectively, and they will be tenable from October 1, 1962, for one year. It is open to the holder of a studentship to apply for it to be renewed for a second year. Applications must be received by the London School of Economics and Political Science, Houghton Street, Aldwych, London, W.C.2, not later than May 31.

Record Bedford Exports

A NET profit of £4,328,923 (£6,887,546 1--V before taxation) was earned in 1961 by Vauxhall Motors on sales of £118 m. In the previous year net profit was £7,159,335 (before taxation £14,067,200) on sales of £136 million. Vehicle sales of 186,388 units, though down from the previous year's total of 245,981, were exceeded only in 1959 and 1960.

Production and exports of Bedford lorries set new records. Of the company's total unit sales, 56.5% were to overseas countries. Of exports 27% went to Europe, compared with 16% in 1960.
