Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A drive to increase the sales of Vredestein commercial vehicle tyres in the UK is being made by NV Nederlandsch-Amerikaansche Autobandenfabriek Vredestein of Enschede, Holland, it was announced in Enschede during a recent visit to the factory of a party of technical journalists from this country. The company says it can offer a substantial price advantage compared with UK tyre makers and claims that the quality of the tyres is of a high standard. Sales in the UK will he handled by some 15 independent tyre dealers who are members of the National Tyre and Distributors Association.

The majority of sizes and types of commercial vehicle is included in the range although, for the time being, the production of radial-ply tyres is restricted to sizes up to and including 10.00in. and no tubeless or big-single tyres are being made. The American Goodrich cornpany owns 20 per cent of Vredestein shares and has a "know-how contract" to provide advice on design and production problems. Daily output of the Dutch factory is around 10,000 car tyres and 5,000 commercial vehicle covers, and there is ample provision for expansion. Some tyres are made for Goodrich.

A special cross-ply tyre is being supplied to the transport departments of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht for equipping the standard city buses of these four centres. The buses are based on OAF chassis with automatic transmission and the tyres are designed to provide a long life at low speeds. The smooth side walls are designed to reduce damage from kerbing to a minimum and have depth indicators in the form of shallow pockets.
