Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• S. and H. McCall Transport (Glasgow) Ltd. failed in an application at Glasgow last week to replace one artic of Sf tons by one of 7; tons. Glasgow Hiring Co. Ltd., McKelvie (Transport) Ltd. and Strathclyde Transport Services were objecting to the application which was continued from July 11.

Another application for a conversion from Contract A to A licence operation on behalf of Brown and Poison Ltd. was withdrawn. The expected witness did not attend so the L.A. Mr. A. B. Birnie, allowed withdrawal without influence to any further application which might be made.

The case for the applicant was that the heavier six-wheeled unit was required because it would give better maintenance, greater economy and better safety when used with the occasional abnormal load. It would not increase the abnormal load carrying.

The LA said the evidence was conflicting and he was left with the feeling that the heavier tractive unit was for a purpose not declared in the normal user.
