• An international road haulage agreement between the British and Netherlands Governments was signed at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, in London, on Friday.

The signatories were Mr. Frederick Mulley, Minister of State, for Britain, and Baron van Linden, chargé d'affaires, for the Netherlands.

The agreement will take effect when the necessary statutory processes have been completed in both countries.

It sets out a liberal arrangement under which hauliers of either country will be free to operate to or through the other country without having to obtain a carrier's licence or permit from the other country.

British hauliers will also be permitted to carry goods between the Netherlands and any third country unless the rules in force in that third country prohibit such operations.

But they will not be allowed to engage in domestic transport within the Netherlands. Similarly Dutch hauliers may carry goods between Britain and any third country but may not engage in domestic transport within the United Kingdom.

"Own-account" operations are covered by the terms of the agreement.
