I lAVING JUST READ the letter from Mark Doel Transport (CMS October) regarding Stuart Oades' (right) comments on the future (or otherwise) of ownerdrivers, [feel that I couldn't agree more with Mark's comments.
It is the likes of Salvesen,Tesco, JS Sainsbury and the other major firms that put the squeeze not only on owner-drivers but on all companies that deliver into their Regional Distribution Centres where they are kept waiting for long periods. Like Mark, I too work for a good company that pays fair rates and supplies me with consistent work.
Unlike Stuart Oades I know each and every one of my drivers by their first names; I meet them weekly for an update and any problems are rectified there and then. Like Mark Doel Transport 1 guarantee I can deliver a better and more efficient service than Christian Salvesen ever could.
I would like to know the last time that Oades got out of his chair and went out and transported a load himself.Then perhaps he would realise that there are a large number of owner-drivers and small companies that provide a dedicated service.
